Stoneham Board of Health offers free 8-hour Youth Mental Health First Aid Course
The Stoneham Board of Health will offer two free Youth Mental Health First Aid courses, the first an 8-hour Saturday course on Feb. 11; the second, a three-evening course on Feb. 28, March 7 and 14.
The courses are designed for anyone working with young people who would like training in identifying mental health or substance abuse disorders. Teachers, coaches, church youth workers, social workers and parents are encouraged to attend.
As adults who work with young people, we are more likely to encounter someone–friend, family member, students, neighbor–in an emotional or mental crisis than someone having a heart attack.
Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches a 5-step action plan to offer initial help to young people showing signs of a mental illness or in a crisis, and connect them with the appropriate professional, peer, social, or self-help care.
Anyone can take this 8-hour course, made available by USA–Mental Health First Aid.
To register, or for more information, please email Peg Drummey at the Stoneham Board of Health, firstname.lastname@example.org.
